2016 has been a busy year for Uttoxeter Rifle Club, some events include the Phoenix, the NRA 147 Imperial with some members who shot the full week while others came down to enter specific matches. By the Saturday PM, URC has two teams for the falling plates match and the Methuen cup. While we didn’t walk away this year with any trophies, we did have a wonderful time amongst colleagues and friends and cemented new and founding relationships.
As in previous years we have had a small number of members who have travelled to Raton in New Mexico for the .50 cal world championship. I’m pleased to say that we did come home with some silver from this event, well done to Mike, Stuart and Malcolm who attended and did GB proud!
Also throughout the year the club has ran a number of guests days that were well supported and enabled URC to spread the word that shooting is safe, fun while allowing us to support West Midlands Air Ambulance with a £540 donation. Well done to the members for supporting these events, donating time and resources to make them such a resounding success.
The club also has a growing base of active members who are following the Civilian Service Rife winter league both at Bisley and also now at Diggle, with a few who are now expanding their portfolios and undertaking practical shotgun, mini rifle and looking towards 3 gun competitions. See URC competing within the CSR winter league.
… Also lets not forget the 50+ members who attend the local range on a regular basis, practicing their marksmanship and keeping the club banter alive and kicking !
For a small club in rural Staffordshire we have some heavy weight representation in national and international competitions and are truly a gateway into many disciplines within this sport.
